Craft a simple pillowcase with just two seams! Opt to include an accent piece or keep it straightforward. Perfect for gifting to friends or family, or contributing to a guild’s charity project.
20″x 30″ Standard Size Pillow Case
Materials:
- 3/4 yard main fabric
- 1/4 yard cuff fabric
- 1-1/2″ x WOF for optional trim
- Thread to match or coordinate with your fabric
- Scissors or rotary cutter
- Sewing machine
- Iron and ironing board
- Pins or clips
Cutting:
- Main Body: 27″ x WOF
- Cuff: 9″ x WOF
- Accent Trim: 2″ x WOF
Steps:
- Fold fabric pieces in half, salvage to salvage.
- Lay your fabrics on top of each other with the folded edges together.
- Trim the salvage edge off. The pieces should measure about 21″folded. or 42″ unfolded.
- Fold the accent trim in half lengthwise with wrong sides together. Press. (Optional) Skip to Step 6 if not adding accent trim.
- Pin to the right side of the long edge of the main fabric with raw edges even.
- Fold cuff fabric in half lengthwise with wrong sides together. Press.
- Lay the 9″ cuff down right side up with long edge horizontal.
- Place the 27″ main fabric right side up on top of the 9″ cuff matching raw edge.
- Place the 2″ folded accent piece on top with raw edges together. (Skip if not using the accent piece).
- Roll the main body fabric up towards the top.
- Fold the 9″ cuff piece on the bottom over the rolled up main piece and match it to the raw edges at the top.
- Pin in place
- Sew with a 1/4″ seam.
- Turn tube right side out.
- Fold pillowcase in half along lengthwise with wrong sides together.
- Sew 1/4″ seam long the bottom and side.
- Turn inside out.
- Sew 3/8″ seam on the bottom and side.
- Turn right side out and press.
